This book is the true-life adventure story about a warm-hearted woman who refuses to abandon her five “rescued” dogs when adversity strikes. Instead she lets her dogs rescue her and together they accomplish the impossible; a journey across Canada by dog team, the first in recorded history. Both volumes have many color pictures from this amazing journey.
In Volume One the reader travels along through the first year on the road. From her dubious start in Edmonton, Alberta with only an hour’s notice and two dimes and a nickel for a budget, to her soggy arrival in Thunder Bay, Ontario, this volume is a testament to what faith, love and willpower can accomplish. Alone, but for her five furry friends, she rises to meet every challenge the road has to offer. As she and her dogs travel they are welcomed into the hearts and homes of many, gaining a great perspective of the Canadian people. Miraculous things happen to her, and she strikes a bargain with the “Universe”; she will only ask for water, all else “the Universe provides”. The less she has, the more she ceases to worry, secure in her faith. When one of her dogs sustains a serious injury, she is welcomed into a 30 room mansion full of priceless antiques and allowed to stay as long as she likes. Not all is smooth sailing though; shivering through blizzards in her tent, struggling to write with a frozen pen, loosing her entire team in Regina, the list goes on. All of it met with wit and wisdom, fueled by the love of her dogs she makes it all the way to Thunder Bay. There, disaster strikes with the catastrophic failure of the tired old tricycle that has been towed along so many miles by her dog team. After consulting with many she decides to return to Alberta, hoping to resume the journey in spring with better equipment.
